WolfWhale is built on OCAP® — Ownership, Control, Access, Possession — the First Nations principles for how information about us is collected, used, and held.
OCAP® is a registered trademark of the First Nations Information Governance Centre. We use the four words as they published them — we do not certify anyone.
Ownership
A community owns its information the same way it owns its stories. WolfWhale does not.
Control
The school and Nation decide who can see a file, how long it lives, and when it is deleted.
Access
People the Nation names can see their information. A full export is always one tap away.
Possession
Files live on Canadian servers. We do not ship student data to train anyone’s AI. Not ours. Not a vendor’s.
Saskatchewan LAFOIP
Local Authority Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy. Attendance, enrolment, and report cards are treated as personal information. Access is role-based. Every export is written to the audit trail.
Legal names
Classmates and families see preferred names. Legal names live here, labelled. Never in a class list.
One student in this demo uses a different preferred name. That name is what the class sees. The 2023 Edsby/MySchoolSask glitch did the opposite.
Never used to train AI
School work, messages, IIPs, and attendance are not training data. There is no silent model-improvement pipeline.
Where data lives today
This demo stores the school on this device. A real tenant needs Postgres in Canada (AWS ca-central-1, Montréal). Neon has no Canada region yet — we will not pretend otherwise.
The four colours in our design honour teachings of balance. Teachings vary by Nation. Local Elders guide how they are used in class — the software does not replace that.
